Blogger spotlight: Glitter or Gold

By:

Editor's Note: This piece is one in a series focusing on local style bloggers. A new blogger will be featured on Fashionably Cleveland every Friday for the next few weeks. Check back every week to learn about another fabulous blogger!

Marissa Centofanti is a blogger I met at a local fashion event, and I knew she would be great for our series of blogger profiles. She is a young professional working in downtown Cleveland and started her blog Glitter or Gold as a creative outlet to write about her two favorite things beauty and fashion.

Fashionably Cleveland: How would you describe your blog in your own words?

Marissa Centofanti: My blog is a mix of fashion and beauty musings. You’ll find reviews of my favorite beauty products along with fashion inspiration. I usually write about pretty affordable, wearable stuff. I would definitely consider myself a beauty product junkie, and I love to share my best finds with my readers!

FC: Where do you get your inspiration?

MC: My mom is the chicest person I know, and she has always given me great style advice. I also find a lot of inspiration from other bloggers.

FC: How would you describe Clevelanders' style?

MC: I think Clevelanders are stylish yet practical. Our winter fashion is heavily affected by the weather, so I have learned to incorporate trendy boots, scarves and jackets into many of my outfits!

FC: How would you describe your personal style?

MC: My style is a mix of glam and a little edgy. I love combining feminine pieces with tougher items, like moto boots with a lace top or a faux fur vest with a loose blouse.

FC: Who are some of your style icons?

MC: Victoria Beckham and Lauren Conrad.

FC: What was your Black Friday shopping experience like?

MC: In my family, it’s tradition for all of the women to take a trip to Beachwood Place and shop for gifts (and ourselves). We have been going for years! I found quite a few deals this time.

FC: When it comes to gift giving what are some go to items for the fashion lover?

MC: A small designer clutch or wristlet is always a good splurge for a fashion-loving friend. I also love giving makeup palettes since they are so versatile.

FC: What is the best gift you have ever received?

MC: A trip to the Dominican Republic. Such an amazing present!

FC: What is your go-to party look?

MC: Office party: Classic black dress with printed pumps or a colorful pencil skirt with a black top and peep-toe pumps. Family party: A printed dress with heels or a leather skirt with a sweater and boots. Date night or cocktails: A jewel-tone peplum dress, black pumps and a chunky statement necklace. Black-tie event: A silk black and white one-shoulder dress with a red lip.

FC: What do you love most about Cleveland?

MC: I love the comeback Cleveland has been making. With all of the new restaurants opening and events happening all around the area, Cleveland is coming back, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.

FC: What is one piece of general style advice?

MC: Wear what makes you feel amazing, whether it’s the hottest new style or a classic piece. Even if something is on-trend, if you don’t feel comfortable in it, find something else that makes you feel and look your best.

FC: What is some general beauty advice?

MC: Keep things balanced. If you are doing a dramatic smoky eye, pair it with subdued lips and cheeks and vice versa. Makeup is a fun way to take subtle style risks, like a bright eyeliner or punchy lipstick.
