Rock the Runway 2012

The annual Rock the Runway student fashion competition was held on March 10, 2012, at Kent State University. The theme was "A Celestial Space Odyssey," and students featured space and light in their designs.

Hats off to millinery

Local milliner Dee Hall presented a collection of her hats - and some designed by her colleagues - on February 23 at Virginia Marti College of Art and Design in Lakewood.

Young, lovely and seriously talented

Sarah Lottes, a 17 year old senior at Lake Catholic High School, is not just a girl with talent. She won the Prom Contest for JoAnn Fabric & Craft Stores, where thousands of teenage girls around the country scrambled through a prom fashion frenzy in order to receive a $10,000 scholarship given to the winning design. Each design had to incorporate fabric from JoAnn only, receipts attached to entry. There were many other requirements and rules, but we’re not getting into that.

Unmasking design beauty

Vanni Wang unmasked her couture design line at LaCentre on October 30. Wang's company, Lucio Vanni, will be headquartered in Greater Cleveland.

Head among stars, feet on the ground

Ali Rahimi is a bona fide designer for the stars. A partial client list of Mon Atelier salon includes Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria-Parker and Amy Adams, among many others. Rahimi has also dressed gentlemen, such as Eric Mabius, Blair Underwood and William H. Macy.

Clevelander & fashionista

Valerie Mayen is the latest Clevelander to become nationally — perhaps internationally — famous. She competed on the eighth season of “Project Runway,” airing on Lifetime.

Christopher Boyle

Fashion designer Christopher Boyle will debut his first solo dress collection on Sat., June 12, during Fashion Week Cleveland’sAmerican Designer Fashion Show.

Lisa Malanij

The time has come again for Fashion Week Cleveland. I had the pleasure of asking local designer and Kent State University alum Lisa Malanij a few questions. Malanij's designs will be featured at Fashion Week Cleveland's Cleveland Fashion Show on Saturday, June 19.
