Blog Spotlight: Sylvie Style

Sylvie Hart left a corporate career in marketing to become a personal stylist and blogger and hasn't looked back since. The busy entrepreneur and mom of two took some time to answer a few questions for us about blogging, her influencers and her best style advice. See what she had to say:

What made you decide to start blogging?

I started blogging almost a year ago to share my passion for fashion and to serve as a creative outlet. At the same time, I started a side business as a personal stylist while working full time in marketing at a health care company. I knew one day, my desire to run my own business coupled with desperately feeling the need to be a less-crazed mom of two busy boys, would inspire me to make the switch from corporate girl to entrepreneur. As my styling business began to grow, I found myself wanting to spend more time working with clients, inspiring them to style with confidence. Truth be told, I was loving every minute of it and knew change was on the horizon sooner than I expected. With the incredible support of my husband and kids cheering me on from the sidelines, I put in my two week notice and never looked back!

What advice would you give to someone just starting a lifestyle or fashion blog?

There are so many bloggers out there, but what keeps me coming back to my favorites is their authenticity. Keep it real and share your own voice. In turn, your followers will find you and keep coming back for more. Focus your blog on what you’re passionate about. Start small, dream big. One last thing, the mechanics of setting up a blog can be challenging, if you're not already in this space. My advice is to jump in and don't overthink it. One of my favorite resources for starting your own blog is www.justagirlandherblog.com/framework. I bought her online book and it was hands-down the best resource I have found for getting started.

Where do you find inspiration for your posts?

I find inspiration from magazines, Instagram, Pinterest, clients, friends, favorite bloggers (check out www.lemonstripes.com, www.thestripe.com, www.thefashionmagpie.com) and more. I carry a little notebook with me and jot down ideas as they come to me.

How would you describe your personal style?

My style has definitely evolved over the years and more so in the last three months, when I quickly realized I had a closet full of office wear and very little casual wear. Currently, my overall style vibe is West Coast casual meets coastal living. I love all shades of blue, so you’ll find me wearing something blue every day. Bottom line, I like to be comfortable, casual, and look pulled together 95 percent of the time.

What is the best piece of style advice you've ever received?

Be a stiletto in a room full of flats.
