Blog spotlight: thecurvyguru

thecurvyguru, Cleveland blog

Kourtlyn began her blog, thecurvyguru, as a hobby, and it has since grown into something much more significant. The local lifestyle blogger answered some questions for us about blogging, finding inspiration and style advice - see her answers below:

What made you decide to start blogging?

I started blogging as strictly a hobby, something to do while my daughter is napping or whenever I was feeling bored. I have a passion for fashion and love being able to share that with the masses. It has been so fun, and honestly it doesn't feel like work to me. I blog as if I'm talking to my best friend! How cool is that!?

What advice would you give to someone just starting a lifestyle or fashion blog?

My advice for anyone starting out blogging would be that consistency is key. Get on a schedule on when to upload and stick to it. People are looking for blogs to follow that will consistently have new material for them to keep up with. Otherwise, you are out of sight and out of mind. I would also recommend that you try your hardest not to compare yourself and your blog growth to others. Comparing yourself will leave you feeling not good enough, and oftentimes I would feel discouraged when doing so.

Where do you find inspiration for your posts?

I find inspiration everywhere! Whether it be scrolling through Pinterest at new fashion trends or just stumbling upon a really cool product. I also follow a ton of other bloggers and they inspire me everyday as well! I love the blogging community!

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is definitely more casual, but of course I throw some more dressed-up looks into the mix as well. I tend to gravitate towards neutrals but love to throw a pop of color into there, too! Also leopard print is considered a neutral in my book; you just can't have too much animal print!

What is the best piece of style advice you've ever received?

The best style advice I've received is that you shouldn't base your style strictly on what is on trend at the moment. If you love it, wear it! If you want to try out a style but are unsure of how it would look on your body type, just do it! Wear what makes you happy and own it! Confidence wears well, and confidence is what attracts others to you!
